Dr. S.P. Vats has been on the faculty of M.D. University, Rohtak for the last 28 years, and is presently holding the position of its Registrar. He joined this position some five years back after having taught ‘Defence and Strategic Studies’ for 23 years in the University College, Rohtak – a constituent college of the University. Born to a reputed teacher of Haryana, Sh. Shiv Dhan, in Village Thurana (Hissar), he followed the footsteps of his father and joined teaching profession.

Having graduated from Hisar, he pursued his master’s degree from Panjabi University, Patiala obtaining first class first position. He pursued his doctoral research from Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut, and created a niche for himself in the field of ‘Defence and Strategic Studies’ by publishing research papers in national and international journals. He has been conferred with the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Academic Excellence Award and Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Services Award. He has a book ‘Evolution of Indian Army’ to his credit. In addition to holding the Registrar’s position, a couple of scholars are pursuing doctoral research under his guidance. Besides being an avid reader and a distinguished teacher, he is a stout sportsperson who obtained Silver Medal in Haryana State Cross Country Race and Gold Medal in all India Inter-University Boxing Championship.

He is widely traveled, and has participated in numerous seminars, workshops and conferences. He is also borne on several State-formed committees. He is a disciplinarian with a heart and objective understanding.
