VICE CHANCELLOR

Prof. R.P.Hooda is presently the Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana, India. He was born on May 4, 1945 at a little known village of Rurki in Rohtak district of Haryana in a family with a humble background. He rose to this eminent position by dint of diligence, passionate love for academics, and relentless pursuit of purpose to excel in life. After having passed his Matriculation with distinction from Punjab University, he came to Kurukshetra where he pursued his higher studies with zealous interest culminating into  Ph.D. in Economics.

Prof. Hooda has throughout remained a dedicated teacher and an inquisitive pupil, ever ready to learn as much from books as life itself. His students and scholars have always flocked to him as an assured treasure house of love, knowledge, and concern. He has been a teacher of singular repute. His contribution to research in the form of published research works, and text books has been widely recognized.

Prof. Hooda is an academician administrator of merit. During his long career of 35 years, he has held with distinction a number of top academic and administrative positions. He remained Professor in the Department of Business Studies/Commerce for eighteen years and built up the Department as a Centre of Excellence as its Chairman for nine years. He adorned the offices of the Registrar, Dean Faculty of Commerce and Management, and Director, Directorate of Distance Education, all at his alma mater - the Kurukshetra University. He was Director of Apeejay Institutions at their Dwarka Campus (New Delhi) for quite some time. On an earlier occasion, he also worked as Director, Academic Coordination at Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. Immediately prior to taking over the reins of M.D. University, Rohtak as its Vice-Chancellor, he held the same position at Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.

He is a widely travelled person, and has been on education vision to countries like England, Germany, Belgium, and France. He has also travelled extensively within India. Everywhere, he left a distinct mark of his amiable temperament, cosmopolitan outlook, and profound scholarship.

Under his dynamic leadership, Kurukshetra University took numerous radical measures to bring about excellence in academics, research, sports and cultural activities. After assuming the charge of Maharshi Dayanand  University  as Vice-Chancellor on 04.12.2007, he took bold and progressive initiatives to transform the University into a dynamic and responsive institution. One can feel his presence in this University only by seeing the infrastructure he has developed over the last four years and the academic environment he has been trying to provide. All these endeavors, which have set the University on a pace of unprecedented growth, are sure to equip the university with competitive edge to take on the challenging future with confidence.  

As Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Hooda has a vision to see the University vie with the best in India, and even those abroad. His sense of commitment to this great cause is perceptible in his tireless efforts to retrieve the university from the morass of undue outside interference in its day-to-day working. Merit alone finds favour in his scheme of things.
