Er. Har Sarup Chahal VICE-CHANCELLOR MAHARSHI DAYANAND UNIVERSITY ROHTAK - 124001 (HARYANA)

Er. Har Sarup Chahal was born on 6^th May, 1949 hails from a small hamlet Nimri of Bhiwani District of Haryana.  He completed schooling from Jat Heroes Memorial Anglo Sanskrit Higher Secondary School, Rohtak. He belongs to a family of academicians. His father was a renowned Headmaster of Jat School and Vaish School Rohtak, who was awarded State Award for Teachers by Govt. of Punjab. Graduated in Civil Engineering and obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Highway Engineering from the coveted Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh with First class First Position. Er. H. S. Chahal was first selected as Lecturer in Regional Engg. College, Kurukshetra but later joined Haryana Irrigation Deptt. for a short spell. Topping the list of selected candidates of Haryana Public Service Commission, made his career in Haryana Public Works Department (Buildings & Roads) where he rose from an Assistant Engineer to the highest rank of Engineer-in-Chief. Sh. Chahal was also Managing Director of Haryana State Roads & Bridges Development Corporation and General Manager in National Highways Authority of India.

In his career of an Engineer spanning 37 years he successfully completed many mega projects of Haryana PWD, Delhi Development Authority and National Highways Authority of India namely:

Mini Secretariat at Gurgaon, Haryana Bhawan at New Delhi, Player’s Building at Indira Gandhi Stadium,   I. P. Estate, New Delhi (presently housing Delhi Govt. Sectt.) National Highway Development Programme of NHAI in the States of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh

Er. Chahal, A renowned “Highway Engineer” was Council Member and Vice President of Indian Roads Congress-a body which sets Standards & Specifications for road construction in the country. He is a member of Rigid Pavement Committee and Highway Planning, Transportation and Road Safety Committee of Indian Roads Congress. He is a Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India). He is on the Boards of Directors of WARCO's (Ministry of Water Resources. G.O.I.). He has authored many technical papers on Road safety in Indian and foreign journals.

He is a sportsman making strides in Badminton and Lawn Tennis. A keen golfer who achieved ‘Hole- in -One’ at Panchkula Golf Club.

He is a person with vision and dynamism. He is not only a real technocrat & true academician but also sensitive towards social responsibilities.
